The 31st Street and 129th East Avenue intersection received temporary passing lanes and a new traffic signal (no left-turn signals) during a minor improvement project in 1985, which has helped improve traffic flow at the often-crowded intersection. The intersection received extra lanes on all but the west approach. However, the extra lanes do not continue through the intersection, as they primarily serve a motorist wishing to pass a vehicle turning left. No funding is available for a major widening project, so this design likely will be around for a while. Photograph taken June 1986.
