Until 1978, this intersection was a four-way stop sign, at which time a cable-strung traffic signal was installed. This signal remained until 1986, at which time the present signal was installed. The intersection has two bad times each day - rush hours, and traffic sometimes can back up for nearly a mile on Yale Avenue toward 71st Street. It is quiet at other times, but smaller traffic jams are beginning to occur outside of peak hours, which indicates that widening will be necessary to alleviate problems. There are no funds available for a widening project at this time, but the intersection likely will be a candidate for upcoming bond issue or sales tax packages. Photo taken June 1987.
